Michael Edward Shampo, 65, of Menominee County, was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison Friday for repeated, daily sexual assaults and brutality of two young girls over two decades ago. Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Rogg, says,  “Judge Barglind, in her discretion, departed upward, not by the full amount which I was after, but she exceeded the guidelines by a year and a half.”

Rogg says, “this is the case that I am most proud of in my career as a prosecutor.”

Until recently, Shampo continued to seek child victims by applying for a foster care license, which led to the latent discovery of this case. Rogg says, “The most important reason for sentencing Shampo above the sentencing guideline range is to protect the two ladies and the women and vulnerable children in our community.” If you or someone you know has been a victim of criminal sexual conduct in Menominee County, you can contact the Prosecutor’s Office at 906-863-2002.
