02/12/2020- A pair of new Marinette County positions aimed at better promoting and developing economic, community, and tourism opportunities gets their first green light at the committee level. Tuesday the Development Committee considered the immediate creation of both a Development/Tourism Director, as well as a Program Assistant for that division. County Administrator John Lefebvre worked with some County Supervisors to craft these positions at the direction of the County Board to allow the County to have more direct influence and oversight of community and economic development, as well as tourism promotion. Lefebvre says it’s his intention that the individuals that fill these roles have experience and expertise across these fields to complement one another. The new positions would be housed within the Administration Department, which streamlines their creation, while still allowing room for future growth.
While a professional rating of the Development/Tourism Director position will be sought, it’s estimated that will run the County between $74000 and $90000 in salary and fringes, while the Program Assistant cost will be between $65000 and $79000. The creation of these roles was unanimously approved and will be forwarded to the Administrative Committee for consideration Thursday.
