08/13/2018- Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources Board okays an emergency rule to require deer farms to upgrade their fencing in an effort to slow the spread of chronic wasting disease. The ruling mandates the installation of a second fence or solid barrier at farms that have tested positive for the presence of CWD. CWD- free farms can add a second fence, a solid barrier, or an electric fence. Additionally, the rule also enacts a ban on the movement of deer carcasses from CWD-affected counties, which includes Marinette County. Thirteen farms in the state have tested positive for CWD. Those farm owners have one year to comply with eh new regulations.
