11/01/2018- The Wisconsin DNR says hunters in Marinette County should be optimistic about the upcoming deer season. A fourth consecutive mild winter has contributed to a strong fawn production throughout the region. The buck harvest in the county’s Northern Forest Unit is expected to increase again this year and the local Deer Advisory Council is looking to increase the antlerless deer harvest in the Central Farmland portion of Marinette County. Hunters will be issued three free antlerless tags in Zone 2 with each license and the county will again offer an antlerless Holiday Hunt in the Central Farmland Zone, as well. Last year, hunters in the county’s Northern Forest zone harvested around 4500 deer, up about 11% from the 2016 season. Those in Central Farmland took 4900 deer in 2017- a 9% increase over the year prior.
