06/26/2019- High water levels are causing problems for the City of Marinette’s Logging and Heritage Festival coming in July. The high level of the Menominee River is reducing the amount of land available on Stephenson Island. Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Dorothy Kowalski said because this a more congested layout, a request was being made to limit dogs on the Island July 12th through the 14th for the festival.
The city council approved the request. Service dog owners will need to show their dog’s certification for the dog to be allowed on the island during the festival.
High water is also causing frequent flooding of the parking lot at Red Arrow Park. The council approved a request to try installing a retaining wall along the parking lot to hopefully limit the amount of sand and debris that is left on the lot from the flooding. The project will cost $3600.
