03/15/2019- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is encouraging residents to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day safely this weekend. As with any celebration that may involve alcohol, the DOT says people should plan ahead and find a designated driver if they’ll be drinking. Even those that are only feeling buzzed should find an alternate ride home, whether that’s from a sober friend, public transit, or utilizing the Safe Ride Home program offered by some bars and restaurants. Law enforcement will be keeping a sharp eye out for drunk drivers this weekend, with the primary goal of discouraging drivers from making the decision to get behind the wheel while impaired. Last year in Wisconsin there were more than six-thousand alcohol-related crashes resulting in nearly 160 deaths- six of which were here in Marinette County.
