There’s a new Medical Director at the helm of three public health departments in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Dr. Robert Lorinser has been selected to fill that role for Public Health Delta & Menominee Counties, along with the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department and Dickinson-Iron District Health Department. Dr. Lorinser is a Marquette native and practiced family medicine there until 2011 when he accepted a position as a Regional Medical Officer with the Foreign Service. During his tenure with the U. S. State Department, he completed 5 tours, providing medical care to U. S. Government employees and their families in Pakistan, South Korea, Afghanistan, Morocco, and Iraq. Dr. Lorinser also serves as the Medical Director for Marquette County Health Department. The coordination of medical leadership is expected to benefit these U.P. health departments, as many already operate similar programs.
