02/25/2019- Two area women continue their mission to make sure every girl feels like a princess on their special day. Today’s average price of a prom dress is anywhere from $100 to $600 and that’s a cost that leaves many girls sitting at home on prom night. But, through Project Give’s Fairy Godmother Project, Shelby Beck and Jenny Knox are providing those dream dresses free of charge. Knox is the owner of Goose and Gander Finery in Marinette. For several years, she and Beck have been collecting gently-used formal dresses and, with a sewing machine instead of a magic wand, transforming them into unique, custom-made gowns for girls who couldn’t otherwise afford them, no questions asked. Beck calls Knox a real-life fairy godmother.
Prom isn’t the only time of year the Fairy Godmother Project provides these gowns- they dress girls for homecoming, Daddy-Daughter dances, and other special events, as well. Beck says she never gets tired of hearing Knox’s stories about the girls they’re able to help.
The Fairy Godmother Project served around 40 area girls last year alone. Those in need of a dress can reach out to Project Give via their Facebook page or by emailing projectgive906@gmail.com.
