11/26/2018- Marinette County Elderly Services continues to impact the lives hundreds of residents annually. The agency has been active in the county for nearly four decades and provides services, information, and assistance to those age 60 and older through a variety of programs and partnerships with several local businesses and organizations. One of their most valuable programs is helping to meet the nutritional needs of residents at their six community meal sites throughout the county and through their Meals on Wheels service. Avery Steen is the agency’s Nutrition Coordinator. She says the program is helping residents remain in their homes longer without having to worry about where their next meal is coming from.
The agency also offers year-round transportation to elderly and disabled residents. Transportation Coordinator Mary Basak says they provide around 5000 trips annually through with their rural transportation buses and their Volunteer Medical Escort Program helps ensure residents never miss a doctor appointment because of a lack of transportation.
Marinette County Elderly Services operates on a yearly budget of about $980000 and the 7000 annual volunteer hours put in play a critical part in maintaining the services they provide. For more information about their programs or volunteering, call 715-854-7453.
