08/22/2018- An emergency ruling by the Wisconsin DNR board could impact hunters from outside of the area traveling to Marinette County this deer season. The new rule states hunters cannot transport a deer carcass outside of CWD-affected counties- which includes Marinette County- unless they adhere to certain guidelines. Hunters would either have to de-bone or quarter the deer before taking it out of the county, or they’ll have to take it to a licensed taxidermist within 72 hours of it leaving the county. The new regulations were created in an attempt to limit the spread of CWD throughout the state. The rule now goes to Governor Scott Walker’s desk for final approval. If Walker signs off on it, the rule will be effective for nine months while the DNR works to establish permanent regulations.
