Thousands more families will have their hunger needs met as Feeding America West Michigan expands its Mobile Food Pantry program in the U.P. with support from the Superior Health Foundation. An $18,000 grant from the foundation will fund a food distribution in six U.P. counties, including Menominee County where it’s estimated 1 in 6 people face hunger since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Each Mobile Pantry will provide food to around 300 families at no cost and anyone who is in need may attend. Since 1981, Feeding America West Michigan has been operating by reclaiming safe surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers. That food is distributed through a network of more than 800 food pantries, shelters and other hunger-relief agencies in 40 of Michigan’s 83 counties. Details about each mobile food distribution can be found at FeedWM.org once it has been scheduled.
