01/03/2019- If all goes well, the new fish viewing platform over the Peshtigo River in the City of Peshtigo could be complete by the end of the year. Peshtigo’s Common Council approved accepting a $100000 grant from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program at their meeting Wednesday night. The grant puts the last piece of major funding in place to go out for bids on the project. Peshtigo Parks and Rec Director Dave Zahn says the project is still accepting smaller donations for future security upgrades an ongoing maintenance.
The platform will be constructed on existing piers in the river and will allow visitors to view sturgeon and other fish passing through. Zahn says the platform will also include some educational insights about the Peshtigo River.
In addition to the $100000 grant, Peshtigo also received $10000 for the project from the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation Grant Program. Zahn expects work on the platform to get underway this summer and is hopeful it could be complete within the year.
