10/13/2020- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and multiple other agencies are renewing their warning to pet owners who may be taking their animals out to enjoy the fall weather. Over the past two years, at least nine dogs have died after ingesting poison found in wooded areas in Marinette, Forest, and Florence Counties. This series of incidents remains unsolved and Fish and Wildlife, DNR, and law enforcement personnel are cautioning pet owners to keep their dogs on leashes and limit their movements off of roadways to prevent potential contact with poison. Investigators have also discovered dead raptors, coyotes, weasels, raccoons, and wolves who are believed to have ingested the poison. Anyone with information about the matter is asked to contact the Fish and Wildlife Service’s Office of Law Enforcement in Madison or the WDNR Violation Hotline at 1-800-TIP-WDNR.
