Three Marinette city parks will also become a place where visitors can pick out some new books this summer. At their meeting last week, City Council approved the installation of Free Little Libraries at Fred Carney Park, Higley Field, and Duer Gym. While several Free Little Libraries already exist throughout the city, Mariel Carter with the Stephenson Public Library says these new additions will target a younger audience.
A local scout member will build the library boxes for his Eagle Scout project. Carter says the Free Little Libraries will be available in conjunction with other summer reading programs offered at the parks.
The new Free Little Libraries will be designed so they can be removed during the winter months. Marinette’s Public Works Department will be responsible for determining the exact locations for the boxes within the parks and digging the holes where the posts can be placed.
