The Town of Peshtigo Fire Department is offering free smoke alarms, including free installation, to qualified Town of Peshtigo residents as part of a comprehensive fire safety campaign. A limited number of smoke alarms have been obtained through the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation thanks to a grant from FEMA. Town of Peshtigo firefighters are participating in this program to create a safer community by targeting certain at-risk households for free smoke alarm installation. Households that are eligible for free smoke alarm installation includes: Located in the Town of Peshtigo, Residential based on occupants (non- commercial), Lower income households, Occupied by Elder adults over the age of 65, Occupied by children under the age of 18, Occupied residents who are handicapped or disabled in any way, and currently without smoke alarms. Upon request, the Town of Peshtigo firefighters will plan with interested homeowners to provide and install smoke alarms per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Firefighters will also replace batteries in existing smoke alarms, deliver fire prevention materials and assist residents with completing a fire escape plan.
