Hundreds of ships have been launched and christened in Marinette, but the commissioning ceremony is extraordinary. For the commissioning ceremony, the crew will ceremoniously bring the ship to life via hoisting the commissioning pennant, manning the rails, and activating its operating system. Shawn Katzbeck PR of USS Marinette Commissioning Committee says, “this is an event where people basically breathe life into the ship.”

Katzbeck says, “Tickets for the commissioning are complimentary so they cost nothing.”

The commissioning of a ship into the naval fleet is the final stage of acceptance for the vessel into active service. This makes the commissioning of the USS Marinette a significant event not just for those involved with the ship, but for the entire community.
