12/12/2018- Wisconsin’s Frozen Road Law takes effect for truck drivers in the northern part of the state today. As of 12:01 this morning, trucks with a minimum of five axles carrying forest and winter road maintenance products will be allowed to haul loads up to 98000 pounds with no special permits on all numbered state and federal highways north of and including US 8. These higher weight limits do not apply to county or local roads or any highways or bridges specifically posting lower limits. The frozen road declaration is made once the ground under highway pavement is frozen to a depth of at least 18 inches. The frozen road determination for other portions of the state will be made as conditions warrant.
