Just the second naval ship to ever bear the name Marinette will soon be in the water on the shores of the local shipyard. Fincantieri Marinette Marine is set to launch LCS 25, the future USS Marinette at the end of the month. Once commissioned by the US Navy, it’ll be the only commissioned vessel named the Marinette, with the other Marinette being a tugboat built and launched at Marinette Marine in 1967 and taken out of service in 2005. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, FMM CEO Jan Allman says LCS 25’s splash down into the Menominee River won’t come with all the pomp and circumstance these launches usually bring.

Construction of the final ship in FMM’s LCS contract, LCS 31, began in April of this year.
