Changes are coming to Marinette’s waste pickup program. Common Council voted Tuesday to approve Waste Management’s transition from two front-load vehicles with one driver each to one rear-load truck with two drivers and to allow them to collect garbage Monday through Friday versus the current Monday through Thursday schedule. The new method will lower the risk of driver injury and fatigue and the rear-load vehicles are said to produce fewer emissions and reduce the amount of garbage that spills off the truck. Council also gave Waste Management the go-ahead to begin picking up garbage at 6:00 AM. Waste Management plans to mail letters to city residents informing them of the changes and alerting them if their pickup day will be moved. The changes are expected to take effect July 9th.
