08/14/2019- While Marinette officials work to address problems relating to dog waste in city parks, other residents are asking, “What about the geese?” Doug Oitzinger spoke at a Parks and Recreation Committee meeting Tuesday and says the goose waste issue is much more severe than dogs, especially in the parks near the water, and it’s only gotten worse over the past few years. Committee member Ken Keller says the City Forester is purchasing new lights designed to deter the birds, but Oitzinger wants to see the city return to their previous methods of culling the goose population in the area.
It was mentioned that it could be beneficial for Marinette and Menominee to coordinate their efforts to control the Canada goose population on both sides of the river. The Parks and Rec Committee plans to take up the topic at their next meeting in September.
