07/08/2019- Signing the state budget last week, Governor Tony Evers locked in more than $30-million worth of funding for upgrades at the local shipyard. The two-year budget includes a $29-million grant from the Department of Transportation’s Harbor Assistant Program and a $2-million Wisconsin Fast Forward grant for Fincantieri Marinette Marine. The money will support ongoing infrastructure improvements, upping the shipyard’s production capabilities and helping them to secure contracts for the construction of larger ships like the upcoming Multi-Mission Surface Combatant. FMM remains in the running as one of four industry teams competing for the Navy’s new 20-ship guided missile frigate contract.
