07/10/2019- Governor Tony Evers announced that local governments received quarterly payments last week totaling nearly $142-million for General Transportation Aids from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Among them was Marinette County receiving about $774-thousand in General Transportation Aids and the City of Marinette at $180-thousand. The GTA program helps defray the costs of constructing, maintaining, and operating roads and streets under local jurisdiction. Those payments are expected to increase next year since budget the Governor signed last week provides a 10 percent funding increase for general transportation aids, paid to counties, towns, villages, and cities. The increase will be paid to local governments beginning January 2020 and will amount to an additional $66-million being paid out over the biennium.
