A local organization is helping to put home-ownership within reach for some low-income families. The 2018-2019 application cycle is now open for the River Cities Habitat for Humanity, which is part of a network of over 100 Michigan and Wisconsin Habitat for Humanity affiliates building and rehabilitating homes for income-eligible individuals and families. To qualify, applicants must be living in inadequate or substandard housing, have had a stable income for at least two years, provide a minimum of 300 hours building their new home, and attend necessary homeownership classes. Home recipients assume affordable monthly mortgage payments, which include insurance, property taxes, and interest. All applications for Habitat for Humanity home are processed by the USDA.
