03/31/2020- Police in Marinette and Menominee are reminding people, particularly those looking to take advantage of the spring walleye run, to keep social distancing in mind even when outside. A recent shot of the fishing platform along the Hattie Street Bridge that was circulated on social media shows dozens crowded on the walkway despite state mandates in both Michigan and Wisconsin to avoid gatherings of ten people or more and to keep a distance of at least six feet from other people to avoid contracting or spreading COVID-19. Officials in both cities are asking residents to voluntarily comply with these orders. They say if the problem persists, they’ll be forced to take immediate action and close the platform.
