The way we celebrate Thanksgiving this year may be a little different due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But what hasn’t changed is the need to stay safe from cooking fires, which typically peak on this holiday. To help you and your family stay safe, the Marinette Fire Department offers these safety tips and recommendations to help protect everyone’s health during Thanksgiving. Marinette Fire Chief, Jay Heckel says, “prior to the holidays, if you haven’t done so, it’s a good idea to make sure your smoke detectors have fresh batteries in them and are in good working order.”

Heckel says, “don’t ever hesitate to call 9-1-1 if the cooking gets out of hand.”

Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for home fires involving cooking equipment so, make sure to take the proper steps to be safe this holiday season.
