02/14/2020- We’ve got plenty of winter left to go, but homeowners are being told to take steps now to protect their property from flood damage come spring. It’s been the wettest year on record and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has declared this Flood Insurance Awareness Week. Kathy Frank is Marinette County’s Emergency Management Coordinator and says step one is to make sure, if you’re in an area prone to flooding, that you have proper flood insurance. Next, she says, make sure you’re equipped with the essentials like a sump pump and sandbags.
Frank says it’s not just residents living on the bay dealing with water issues, but also those on inland lakes, rivers, and in low-lying areas. You can get more information about flood prevention and preparedness by visiting the Emergency Management page on Marinette County’s website.
