07/22/2019- Inmates at the Marinette County Jail are making good use of their time through local community service programs. County Inmate Education and Programs Sergeant Joe Moser told the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee last week they’ve provided the County’s Maintenance Department and the Peshtigo Parks and Rec Department with inmates to assist in community service projects throughout the spring and summer months. Those partnerships have occurred more sparingly this year than in years past, however, and Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says staffing issues and lack of inmate eligibility means other programs like highway cleanup have gone by the wayside.
The Marinette County Jail has averaged between 110 and 120 inmates in recent months. There are also ten people out on OWI monitoring, 20 enrolled in Drug Court, and 5 in Mental Health Court.
