While few additional details have been released on last Friday’s deadly officer-involved shooting near Goodman, Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says the incident resulted in five of his officers being placed on administrative leave per department policy and that’s put a strain on patrol resources. On October 23rd officers responded to a report of a possible homicide and location of a suspect involved in Goodman. Upon arrival at the home, that suspect fled, while one deceased male was found inside the home. Officers pursued the suspect, who at one point allegedly pointed a firearm at the officers. Authorities shot the man, killing him on scene. Both the murder victim and the suspect are said to be from the Milwaukee area and had traveled to Marinette County for a hunting trip. The Wisconsin DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation is leading an investigation into the shooting of the suspect, while the Sheriff’s Department is handling the alleged murder case. Sheriff Sauve says it’ll likely take weeks for the DOJ to complete their work and turn it over to the District Attorney, which he expects will drive up departmental overtime costs to meet minimum staffing requirements until the officers involved can return to full duty.
