Since 2016, Johnson Controls has provided weekend meals for many local students who might not be getting the proper nourishment they need while they are away from school. Jill Kakuk  Human Resources Manager at Johnson Controls says, “some of our management team within the organization realized the need within the community where students were coming to school Monday mornings noticeably fatigued and having trouble paying attention.”

Kakuk says, “each bag consists of enough food items to get a student through a weekend.”

Over 7,000 bags of food are supplied to students during the school year through the Backpack Program, and much of the funding for the Backpack Program comes directly from employee donations, fundraisers, Johnson Controls, the Milwaukee Bucks, and many area businesses. Participating school districts include Marinette, Menominee, Stephenson, North Central, and Powers. Any company or individual interested in sponsoring a school or donating towards the Backpack Program can contact Jill Kakuk or Maggie Faccio at 715-735-7411 or Chris Behrend at 715-732-1703.
