JUNE IS HOME OWNERSHIP MONTH 061419
Home ownership numbers are declining across the US, but resources from the USDA are working to turn that around. June is Home ownership Month and Jason Allen, State Director for USDA Rural Development in Michigan, says the agency hopes to use this time to increase awareness about the three main programs they have available that can make the dream of home ownership a reality for more people in rural Michigan and Wisconsin.
Allen says when it comes to the M-and-M area specifically, a major hurdle in the path to home ownership is simply a lack of availability. Allen says the USDA also finances new construction, but more needs to be done to create additional build-able lots for this.
Last year alone, the USDA assisted more than 5000 families with purchasing a home or performing needed repairs. More information about these programs can be found on the USDA’s Rural Development website.
