12/17/2018- Another littoral combat ship is in the water at Fincantieri Marinette Marine. LCS 19, the future USS St. Louis, was christened and launched Saturday morning at the local shipyard. The ship is the seventh to bear the St. Louis name. Vice Admiral William Lescher is the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Integration of Capabilities and Resources. He spoke about the start of the legacy of the USS St. Louis name and says that for any ship named the St. Louis, good fortune, safe passage, and combat success are all but assured.
LCS 19 sponsor Barbara Broadhurst Taylor of the ship’s namesake city says this vessel and those that came before it will continue to be recognized and honored by the City and people of St. Louis.
The christening ceremony also marked the formal commencement of the ship’s combat duty. LCS 19 will carry a crew of 50 to 75 sailors, many of whom were in attendance at Saturday’s launch.
