What was a momentous day in the City of Marinette’s ongoing relationship with the U.S. Navy was underscored by COVID-19 this past weekend. Saturday was the launch date of the LCS 25, the future USS Marinette, at Fincantieri Marinette Marine. The warship splashed down into the Menominee River in a private ceremony open only to a limited number of shipyard employees due to COVID-19 restrictions. LCS 25 is just the second ship to bear the Marinette name and Congressman Mike Gallagher says it not only honors the region as a whole, but specifically the men and women who cross through the shipyard gates each day.

FMM officials say the formal christening of LCS 25 is being postponed until the spring in hopes more people may be allowed to attend.
