Elder abuse is a hidden issue in communities across the world and locally, but the Marinette County Aging and Disability Resource Center is looking to change that. June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Pam Daye, Supervisor with the ADRC, says the organization is hosting an event at the Marinette Senior Center to help bring the topic to light and offer attendees a day of fun and relaxation.
Those who have traveled past the ADRC in Marinette may have noticed pinwheels covering the lawn this week. Daye says these are representative of just how prevalent elder abuse is in our area.
Daye says signs of elder abuse include increased isolation and a sudden, noticeable decline in physical appearance or overall health. If you suspect elder abuse, contact the ADRC. The Elder Abuse Awareness Day event runs from 10:30 AM until 3:00 PM. There is no cost to attend and registration is not required.
