Bay Lake Regional Planning presented their requested changes to the 20-year comprehensive plan to the Marinette City Council at Tuesday’s monthly meeting. There are two changes that are being requested. The first would be to designate properties on Stephenson Street and Hattie Street as Residential Low- Medium Density areas and the second would be to remove “light industrial” text from the description of the Mixed-use future land designation.  “Those two houses are currently zoned residential and for everyone who lives around there it’s viewed that the Hattie Court be maintained as a residential neighborhood and be protected,” says Alderperson Jason Flatt.

“The previous comprehensive plan had this area marked as commercial and the plan commission felt that this was appropriately identified,” says Alderperson Jeff Skorik.

After a lengthy discussion, the council voted on both recommendations to the comprehensive plan with both passing with a five to four vote. Moving forward, any further recommendations will be given to Bay Lakes to review with the city. The date the city must complete the 20-year comprehensive plan is by November 30th.
