07/30/2020- Marinette County is unexpectedly set to save more than 60% of the cost to install a green roof on the top of the new resource center being constructed at the county courthouse in Marinette. Land Information Director Greg Cleereman has been working collaboratively with the M&M Area Community Foundation and their Great Lakes One Water Committee on local efforts to preserve water resources and it was during that that he was introduced to the Fund for Lake Michigan, an organization which makes grants to invest in water quality initiatives with tangible immediate and long-term benefits to Wisconsin communities. County Administrator John Lefebvre says there are plenty of environmental impacts having a green roof atop the courthouse will provide, and that’s exactly what motivated the Fund for Lake Michigan to award the county an $80000 grant for the work.
The cost of installing the green space itself is about $125000. Additional related projects such as the construction of an enclosure on the roof and the extension of the elevator bring the total cost of the project to more than $300000.
