03/16/2020- A plan to send a handful of Marinette County sheriff’s deputies to help out with security at the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee this summer has been scrapped. Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve previously stated four to six of his officers may be available to serve on the security team at the DNC following a request from the Milwaukee Police Department. However, last week Sheriff Sauve said upon review of the contract he and Corporation Counsel Gale Mattison had “significant concerns” with the agreement. Among those concerns, Sauve said, is that travel time for officers to drive two and from Milwaukee in their personal vehicles would not be covered. The four-day DNC in July is expected to draw in around 50-thousand visitors.
