More than 100 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty across the U.S. last year. Tuesday, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette Police Department held a law enforcement memorial service to honor those men and women and thanks those that continue to put their lives on the line for our communities each day. Lieutenant Jason Ducaine says those that take the law enforcement oath pledge to perform their duties with integrity and bravery, no matter the odds.
In his keynote address, Marinette County Judge Jim Morrison said it is important to not only reflect on those who gave their lives, but also the officers who are forced to take a life as a last resort to preserve their own safety and the safety of those around them.
May 15th was recognized nationwide as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Just two Marinette County officers have been killed on duty since 1923.
