09/18/2019- The jury trial for a former Little Chute High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a teen in Marinette County got underway yesterday. 47-year-old Jason Lavigne is facing one count of third-degree sexual assault after prosecutors allege he gave alcohol to a 16-year-old girl and then had sex with her during a trip to the Lavigne family’s cabin in Stephenson last summer. During opening statements, Marinette County Assistant District Attorney Cody Marshall says DNA recovered from injuries on the victim following the alleged assault matches Lavigne’s, but Lavigne’s attorney, Kevin Musolf, is calling into question the victim’s credibility, pointing out inconsistencies during her various conversations with investigators, as well as her consumption of alcohol and marijuana prior to the incident. The trial is scheduled to run through Friday. Lavigne is currently serving prison time for a conviction in Outagamie County of Repeated Sexual Assault of the Same Child stemming from allegations that date back to 2000.
