12/20/2018- It looks like Marinette County’s contract with the City of Marinette for marketing and tourism services will continue, at least for now. The county board approved extending the contract, which is set to expire on January 31st, through December 31st of 2019. Supervisor Rick Polzin says the arrangement is working well and the county doesn’t have a plan prepared to replace the current services with in-house work.
Supervisor Bonnie Popp agrees that the contract should be extended until the county can establish their own marketing and tourism role, but says she wants people from every region of the county involved in the oversight of what the marketing plan is and how budget dollars are being spent.
The contract does include a 30-day opt-out provision. The county’s Development Committee is expected to pick up talk of creating their own Convention and Visitors Bureau to replace the City of Marinette contract in the coming months.
