The effort to create a mental health court in Marinette County continues to gain steam. Both the Finance Committee and the Law Enforcement Committee approved a $20000 amendment to the county’s contract with Advanced Correctional Healthcare to allow for an additional eight hours of mental health care at the county jail weekly. Jail Administrator Bob Majewski expects an increase in these types of services to save the county around $35000 each year, and, he says, it will enable them to more effectively rehabilitate inmates suffering from mental health issues.
The Finance Committee also gave the go-ahead to a request to increase the hours of the quarter time After Hours Crisis Worker to full time to provide mental health case management for the mental health court. That is anticipated to cost around $49000 annually. The full county board will review both mental health court recommendations later this month.
