10/01/2019- A Sunday night fire caused up to $35000 in damages in Marinette. Marinette Fire Department Chief Jay Heckel says the call for the fire at a lean-to structure behind the Sherwin-Williams store in downtown Marinette came in around 10:30 Sunday night. When crews got on scene, smoke and flames could be seen coming through the roof of the structure, which contained excess merchandise for the nearby St. Vincent de Paul store. The fire was contained and extinguished relatively quickly, but overhead power lines were damaged and power was knocked out to some downtown businesses. There were no injuries reported and Heckel says the Marinette Police Department is investigating the possibility that the fire may have been started by a trespasser.
