The City of Marinette has received a DNR grant to fund a  deer abatement program.  Police Chief John Mabry told the city’s Public Safety Committee the grant is for $3000. The city’s match is $3000 which can be covered by the officer’s salaries working on the program.  If the city accepts the grant, Mabry says the process will be to get the permits from the DNR, permission from the property owners where the project is done in remote wooded areas of the city, starting a feeding program to bring the deer into those areas. That would happen in late summer or fall, with the harvest, of about 20 deer next January. The Public Safety Committee forwarded the deer abatement program to the finance committee for their review before it goes to the city council.
