When you ask most 14-year-olds how they like to spend their free time, giving back to the community isn’t something you’d expect to be at the top of their list, but, that’s exactly what one Marinette Middle Schooler is doing. Ava Dahlman recently presented a check for over $1000 to the Rainbow House. This is Dahlman’s second year raising funds for the local domestic abuse shelter and she says she got the idea during a class she was involved in last year.
Dahlman raised the money by gathering donations from area businesses and hosting a 5K Rainbow Run in May. And, she says, the Rainbow House isn’t the only organization benefitting from her desire to serve others.
Over the past two years, Dahlman has raised nearly $2000 for the Rainbow House to use to purchase personal items, technology, and other supplies. She says she’s hopeful to continue the effort once she enters high school next year.
