08/22/2018- The Marinette School District is reviving its school board reapportionment efforts. The district attempted to have the question of whether to transition from seven city and two rural to all at-large board seats put on this year’s November ballot, but failed to gather the appropriate number of signatures required last summer. At their meeting Tuesday, the board discussed strategies for gathering the 500 signatures needed to now have the question place on the Spring 2019 ballot. Board members and school staff will collect signatures from Marinette residents through October. Those signatures must be verified by January 15th and submitted to the county clerk by January 22nd. Superintendent Dr. Wendy Dzurick says the new apportionment would create more opportunities for people to serve on the board by removing certain residency restrictions.
