07/13/2020- Progress is being made on a grant application to fund some extensive road work along a major corridor through Marinette. Ayres Associates was contracted to prepare an Economic Development Administration grant application for the City to secure some of the additional funding that’s been infused into the program through federal CARES Act. In total, Marinette is seeking between $4.5-million and $5-million for the reconstruction of Ludington Street, Wells Street, Eggner Street, and part of Main Street. Scott Wilson with Ayres says he feels Marinette is well poised to receive the funding because the redevelopment of these streets and the downtown area plays directly into other economic efforts already at work in the city, including the planned expansion of Fincantieri Marinette Marine.

The EDA grant application is expected to be submitted within the coming weeks, though the City likely won’t hear back on the request until the end of the year. If the money is awarded, the reconstruction of the identified streets will be a multi-year process to minimize the impact to traffic in the area.
