02/20/2019- Menominee has “a lot of work to do,” but Mayor Jean Stegeman seems up to the challenge. Mayor Stegeman didn’t beat around the bush in her State of the City Address delivered to City Council Tuesday night. She says the City has a pool of unfinished business and many serious issues on the horizon, including a lengthy capital improvement project list, stagnant revenues, the legalization of recreational marijuana, and what to do about a state mandate that calls for the replacement of all municipal lead service pipes in the next twenty years.
This was Mayor Stegeman’s eighth State of the City Address and she’s indicated she’s in this for the long haul, saying she intends to seek a third term in Menominee’s top post.
2018 wasn’t without it’s highlights for Menominee. Mayor Stegeman was quick to point out some major improvements performed at municipal facilities and parks, as well as a one-time $124000 state appropriate for local street projects. She also applauds the City for maintaining a healthy unassigned fund balance and for their renewed synergism with the City of Marinette.
