More funding is needed if Marinette County’s Association for Business and Industry is to move forward with the county’s request to take on tourism promotion services.
The county’s Economic Development/Tourism Committee met Monday to discuss increasing MCABI funding to $90-thousand in 2018 to cover the costs involved with the possible expansion of services provided by MCABI. That’s about $7000 above the current contract price. MCABI’s Anne Hartnell says developing a new strategic plan will require time and services the organization hadn’t initially budgeted for.
However, County Board Chair Mark Anderson says until the county gets a firm commitment from MCABI to provide tourism services and an outline detailing what those services might look like, it’s unlikely they’ll approve the funding increase.
Ultimately, the committee decided to take no action on the request until more information is received from MCABI.
