07/12/2019- The recreational pot sales talks have wrapped up in Menominee for now and the City is next turning their attention to what do about medical marijuana sales. Unlike recreational marijuana, municipalities must opt in to allowing medical marijuana dispensaries and Menominee previously had not permitted this. But, with new licensing guidelines in place by the state, City Manager Tony Graff says it may be time to revisit the topic.
Graff suggested the city follow a similar process as they did for their decision on recreational pot sales and schedule a professional presentation on the pros and cons of the medical matter, as well as receive public input. At this time, only one licensed medical marijuana dispensary exists in the UP in Houghton and Graff also plans to confer with the City Manager there. Graff says he’ll bring an update and a recommendation for a presentation to full city council back to the Public Safety/ Public Works Committee.
