12/20/2018- Menominee is working against the clock to fill their City Engineer position. Valerie Mellon plans to retire from her position with the city January 3rd, vacating roles as both City Engineer and Director of Public Works. Menominee’s Judicial and Legislative/ Personnel and Labor Committee discussed how to move forward with filling these openings Tuesday night. City Manager Tony Graff feels it would be better for the city to contract with an outside firm for engineering services, distributing the other duties associate with Mellon’s role among current employees. While it will be a more involved process, Graff says it may be difficult to find Mellon’s replacement under the current job structure.
Graff says even if the city ultimately decides to fill the engineering role in-house, they will need to outsource the work until they can find a replacement. Mellon has served as City Engineer for about six years.
