The Menominee County Board has officially gone on record supporting a collective effort by Michigan Counties in opposing current and future orders unilaterally issued by Governor Whitmer and state agencies in response to COVID 19.  The resolution passed by the board supports a collective action by counties to challenge the legality of the orders and restrictions in response to the pandemic by the Executive Branch and does not support the expenditure of county funds to enforce orders that do not have the authority of law.  Six other counties including Delta, Baraga, and Houghton have passed similar resolutions.  The vote was 6-3 in favor.  Commissioner Steve Gromola was one of the not votes.

In other action, the board approved an agreement with Advanced Correction Healthcare to provide health care services to the jail.

The board put out a request for proposals for a rebuild of the county’s public service radio system to provide better coverage throughout the county for rescue and fire personnel.  The RFP is soliciting equipment providers, tower and antenna construction companies, and network integration companies to build the new system which will utilize nine towers through the county. Contracts would be signed April 6th, and the new system would be scheduled to be turned on in June.
